Why AppHipMom loves it: Cute alien creatures help young kids to master their ABCs and 123s
Toddlers and preschoolers won’t even realize they’re (gulp) learning with the help of their Alien Buddies. That’s because the aliens are so darn adorable and fun to be around.
Alien Buddies includes 4 games, with 8 levels in each: Matching, Puzzle, Dot to Dot and Stickers that will help your little one with their problem solving and fine motor skills.
The Matching game is where the kids learn to identify colours, shapes, letters (upper and lower) and numbers (1-50) by matching the alien with the corresponding space pod. There are visual identifiers on both the alien and the space pod, although if you tap on either one, the child can hear the colour, shape, letter or number in spoken word. The next level up will challenge the kids by removing the visual aid from the pod. Kids will have to match by tapping the pod to hear the word and match it to the visual on the alien.
The Puzzle game is a 4, 6 or 8 piece jigsaw puzzle of the aliens that kids have to piece back together. The Dot to Dot game are number sequential puzzles with the easiest starting at 1-10 to the highest level of difficulty counting from 1-17. Stickers lets the kids create their own alien scene where they can add stickers to the backdrop and even take a photo of their completed scene. Kids earn additional stickers as they complete levels of the game.
This Universal app scores high points with the cute animated aliens and the use of bright colours throughout that kids find irresistible. I also like that it’s a child’s voice that we hear in the audio portions of the game. Stickers add the all important reward component that encourages the kids to keep
